Dr. Kiran Patel is a board-certified cardiologist, entrepreneur, community leader and philanthropist, who from 1992 to 2002 served as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and majority owner
of WellCare HMO. At WellCare, Dr. Patel transformed a small, struggling Tampa-based HMO into the fifth largest Medicaid HMO in the United States with more than $1 billion in annual revenues and operations in Florida, New York and Connecticut.
Dr. Patel was also the founder of a physician practice management company that provided care for more than 90,000 patient visits annually. Dr. Patel is the founder and Chairman of the Patel Foundation for Global Understanding, a non-profit organization that develops and funds a wide variety of programs in health, education and arts and culture.
Dr. Patel received diplomas from Cambridge University and the University of London before attending medical school at Gujarat University in India. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine in New Jersey and completed a fellowship in the Cardiology program affiliated with Columbia University in New York.
