Investment Focus

We focus on recapitalizations and growth investments in US-based healthcare companies with revenues of $10-75 million and EBITDA of $2-10+ million within multiple healthcare segments, in which we have direct experience and a deep understanding of the underlying trends and opportunities.

We are presently investing capital from our fourth committed fund, over which we have full discretion, that is comprised of a diverse group of institution, high net worth, and family office investors.

Phillip Dingle

Managing Partner
As Managing Partner of HealthEdge, Phil is responsible for deal origination, overseeing due diligence and transaction execution, portfolio management and value creation, fund raising and investor relations, and overall management of the firm. Phil’s background as an experienced and successful healthcare operator allows him to add unique insights in the areas of senior level talent management and recruiting, enhancing portfolio company operational efficiencies and team accountability, and board construction and governance. Before co-founding the firm, Phil served as CEO and Chairman of publicly-traded PlanVista Corporation (formerly HealthPlan Services Corporation, a NYSE business). Upon his appointment as the Company’s senior-most executive, Phil inherited a highly leveraged, severely underperforming business, and during his tenure, he successfully executed an extensive strategic, financial, and operational turnaround of the Company, culminating with its sale in 2004. During his tenure at HPS/PlanVista, he also held roles as Chief Counsel, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and President. Prior to HPS/PlanVista, he was a partner in the law firm of Hill, Ward & Henderson. Phil is a long-time member of the Board of Directors of Tampa General Hospital, a multi-billion dollar academic medical center and hospital system with over 100 facilities throughout the State of Florida, most recently having completed a three-year term as Board Chair. During his service at TGH, he also chaired the Executive, Strategy, Finance, Audit, and Governance committees. Outside of work, Phil focuses on his faith and family with wife Kim and twins Ashley and Lauren.

Matt Dawson

Partner
As Partner of HealthEdge, Matt is responsible for deal origination, managing transaction execution including structuring, due diligence, financing, and documentation, portfolio management and value creation, and fundraising and investor relations. In addition to serving as a Partner of the firm, Matt holds the roles of HealthEdge’s Director of Portfolio Management, where he works closely with the management and finance teams at the portfolio companies to execute on value creation initiatives, and the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer, overseeing regulatory reporting. Matt’s prior finance and operational experience in multiple executive roles allows him to add unique insights within the portfolio to help build more effective finance and operations teams, develop and oversee the implementation of financial, lender, and investor reporting, and drive synergies/growth through strategic initiatives. Before joining the firm, Matt served in CFO and COO roles for a variety of companies across healthcare, technology, business services, and private capital. Matt began his career with Kindred Healthcare, a Fortune 500 company in the long-term healthcare industry, which included a role as a hospital CFO in the Tampa Bay area. He currently serves on the board of directors for the ACG Tampa Bay chapter. Outside of work, Matt enjoys playing guitar and live music along with spending time with his wife Jamie and their children: Nate, Clara, Wesley, and Jeremy.

Jessica Hudson

Principal

As a Principal of HealthEdge, Jessica is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing new investment opportunities, as well as providing ongoing support to the firm’s portfolio companies. She is also involved in investor relations and fundraising. Before joining the firm, Jessica worked as a consultant supporting the M&A activities of an investor-backed consolidator within the medical stoploss insurance industry. She has also held positions with Raymond James and Deloitte, where she started her career. Outside of work, Jessica is active in her church, enjoys skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and spending time with family.

Des Varady

Operating Partner

Des joined HealthEdge as an Operating Partner and brings over 25 years of leadership experience in strategy, operations, compliance, and quality. He has led successful initiatives at major provider and payer organizations, including UnitedHealth, Ascension Health, VITAS, and various state Medicaid programs.

Currently, Des is the Chief Executive Officer of Corridor, a Fund II portfolio company, and provides support in evaluating investment opportunities for Fund III. Prior to Corridor, he was the Chief Executive Officer at HWT, a healthcare data and audit services firm, where he led the turnaround, growth, and sale of the company. At Sapient, Des contributed to the company’s initial public offering and led global growth and M&A efforts. He has also held leadership roles at Centric Consulting and National Strategies, an international business-to-government consulting firm.
Des is a U.S. Army veteran.

Pat Ryerson

Operating Partner

Pat currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of Fund IV portfolio company, Radsource, a provider of subspecialty teleradiology services and software. Prior to Radsource, Pat served as Chief Financial Officer of former Fund II portfolio company, Corridor, a provider of revenue cycle management, coding, and education services to clients in the home health, hospice, and skilled nursing industries, which was sold to WellSky in 2023. Before joining Corridor in 2017, Pat worked in public accounting as part of the assurance services practice at RSM US LLP in Kansas City, Missouri, where he specialized in financial statement audit and review engagements of manufacturing, software, healthcare, and gaming clients. Pat is a licensed CPA in Missouri and received a B.S. and M.S. in Accounting from Bradley University.

Scott Heberlein

Partner
As a Partner of HealthEdge, Scott is responsible for deal origination, managing transaction execution including structuring, due diligence, financing, and documentation, portfolio management and value creation, and fundraising and investor relations. Scott’s background as a private equity investor, both as a general partner and institutional limited partner, allows him to provide unique insights in the areas of fundraising and investor reporting/relations, creative structuring and financing options, document negotiation, and strategic exit positioning. Before joining the firm, Scott was a Principal at Fifth Third Capital Holdings, LLC, the private equity division within Firth Third Bank. In this role, he led / participated in over a dozen buyout and venture stage equity co-investments and primary fund commitments to private equity fund managers in the lower middle market. Prior to that, Scott began his career at Florida Capital Partners, a lower middle market private equity fund, where he started as an Analyst and left as a Vice President. Throughout his career, Scott has participated in over 50 direct private equity investments, including majority recapitalizations, venture and growth equity investments, and primary fund commitments. Outside of the office, Scott is an avid golfer, downhill skier, and tennis player, all of which he enjoys doing with his wife Natalia, daughter Stella, and stepson, Phoenix.

Josh Hamrick

Principal

As a Principal of HealthEdge, Josh is responsible for originating deals, overseeing due diligence, valuation, financing, transaction structuring, add-on acquisitions, and fundraising. Before joining the firm, Josh was an Investment Banking analyst at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (Truist Securities) in Atlanta, where he focused on executing sell-side and buy-side middle-market M&A transactions across the industrials, healthcare, energy, and TMT sectors. His previous experience includes positions with Raymond James & Associates, LCG Capital, and the Executive Office of Governor Rick Scott. Outside of work, Josh enjoys traveling, fishing, golf, and soccer. He lives in Tampa with his wife Meggie and sons Eli and Will.

Ralph Nelson

Ralph has 32 years of experience in the accounting profession, including 26 years as a certified public accountant. Over the past five years, he has worked as a financial consultant for Fund I and has served as a part-time Chief Financial Officer for various Fund I portfolio companies, including Dispensing Solutions, Omega Healthcare, Advanced Bio-Technologies, POC Network Technologies, and Woodbury Health Products. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer for Infinity Homecare.


Before joining HealthEdge, Ralph was Vice President and Controller at Priority Healthcare Corporation, a publicly held national specialty pharmacy and distributor with over $2 billion in annual sales.

Jeffery Thompson

As a Partner of HealthEdge, Jeff is responsible for deal origination, managing due diligence, transaction structuring and document negotiation, portfolio management and value creation, and investor relations. Jeff’s career as a skilled executive in the healthcare products space allows him to add unique insights in the areas of management team evaluation, recruitment and retention, navigating various healthcare regulatory agencies and compliance dynamics including the FDA, opportunities for overseas sourcing, and developing/driving operational enhancements. Jeff initially joined HealthEdge as an Operating Partner in Fund I, serving as President, CEO, and Chair of Advanced Bio-Technologies/Enaltus and Chair of Woodbury Products, and became a Partner of the firm in Fund II. Prior to joining the firm, Jeff was a Director and the Chief Operating Officer for Stiefel Laboratories, Inc. and President of Glades Pharmaceuticals. Earlier in his career, he held various sales, management, and operations positions at Bausch & Lomb Pharmaceuticals and SmithKline Beecham. Outside of work, Jeff is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, adventure travel, wildlife photography, scuba diving, and skiing with his wife, Julie.

Cedric Ragsdale

Operating Partner
As an Operating Partner of HealthEdge, Cedric serves as CFO for multiple portfolio companies, overseeing all financial aspects and assisting with financial due diligence for the fund.

With over 19 years of experience in financial management, including procurement, IT, HR, and business development, Cedric’s previous roles include CFO at Bijoux Terner, a global fashion company backed by private equity investment, and CFO for Advanced Bio-Technologies (ABT). He has also held positions such as VP of Finance at Stiefel Laboratories, Inc., and CFO of Lilly del Caribe, among other financial management roles.

Cedric resides in Florida with his wife Melissa, daughter Hannah, and son Christian.
